Infection Control Strategies for MRSA in Nursing Homes – a Cochrane Review

Hughes, Smith and Tunney have looked for evidence of strategies for preventing transmission of MRSA in Nursing Homes. You can download the review here. Unshockingly, little evidence was available for the reviewers to consider (although they seemed to find this surprising).  Most if not all of the evidence for comes from Hospital settings which probably will not be reproducible in a Nursing Home setting. Most now accept there is real evidence of transmission occurring in these settings, with carriage rates of 30% or possibly more in some homes. There is a real and urgent need for creative strategies and innovative interventions in order to reduce MRSA in these areas
